Distracted Driving

We have all heard “don’t text and drive” and hopefully we all follow this advice but have you thought about all the other possible distractions? Distracted driving doesn’t stop at cell phone use. This article from Isure.com reminds us that food and drinks like coffee can also be an issue.

Food for Thought

Nearly 1 in 5 American drivers have had a near miss while driving because they were distracted by food, according to tan Insure.co survey. Over 10% of respondents have had a fender bender with damage resulting in less than $2,000.

Nearly 30% of drivers admit to eating behind the wheel once or twice a week, but 14% say they never do. The top reason drivers eat behind the wheel is a long commute (24%), while 1 in 5 respondents claim it saves them time once they reach their destination.

Nearly a third of drivers say unwrapping food is the most distracting moment. Almost a quarter of respondents say wiping a spill or stain is most distracting while one-fifth say reaching for something at the bottom of a bag is the most distracting moment.
